Day Class? Outdoor Class?

Some have expressed interest in adding a day time class. If Wed. afternoon would work for you, email me at Narah@charter.net. OR if you would be interested in participating in an outdoor class held at Kanawah State Forest this summer (Saturdays), also email me.

General Information

Ultimately what every teacher teaches is his or her style. I most easily identify with tribal style bellydance and teach my version of that. This strong and powerful dance form is my passion, and I love sharing it with others.

Where?
Currently, all classes are held at January's Academy of Dance.

What to wear:
Dress for class is any dance or exercise wear that is not too baggy, so that I am able to see what you are doing. Some wear loose pants or a loose skirt (you'll want to wear shorts or tights underneath since we do stretches on the floor), and a tank top or sports bra. If you have bellydance garb already, please wear it, as this helps you get into "dancer-mode".

Payment for class is due before or at the beginning of class. If you cannot pay, do not come. Students must sign in at the beginning of class when they pay.

If you wish to bring a guest to class, he or she will pay the regular drop in rate for that class. No one is permitted to sit in and watch class, as this is unfair to those trying to learn and who are paying. Fees are non-refundable, but are transferable.

If you take more than one class a week, I offer a discount, depending on which classes you are taking. Let me know what you are interested in, and I'll tell you what the discount is.

Currently, we are working on student performances. This is one way to advance your skills and use what you have learned in a comfortable environment. We also have haflas (bellydance parties) at times to give you the opportunity to use what you have learned.

Basics

The basics class cycles every six weeks to accomidate new students. While we may repeat some movements that are fundamental to the dance, there is a wealth of information to glean by attending the basic classes for several sessions.

In this class, we cover basic posture, basic tribal bellydance movements (see a list here) , and some basic combinations. It is appropriate for someone who has never had a bellydance lesson, or who is unfamiliar with this bellydance style. Cost is \$60 for 6 weeks. If you miss classes, you are permitted to make them up in the next session and, if you wish, pay for the following classes after those classes are made up. A drop in rate is available at $12 class. Classes are held on Tuesdays 8:15-9:30 pm. The next cycle begins APRIL 2ND.

All Levels

The All Levels class is appropriate for those who have never taken bellydance or have just started, as well as those who are more experienced in bellydance. The material is adjusted according to who is there that day. We cover posture, tribal technique and combinations, and improvisation. This class is as scheduled on Sundays, 6:30-7:45. So far, we will be having class every Sunday EXCEPT March 3rd, March 10th, and Easter Sunday, March 31st. Cost is 6 classes for \$60 or $12/class. If you take one other class during the week, you can drop into this class for $10/class. Looking to bump up your skills and get some extra class time or looking for a convenient class time? This is the class for you!

Intermediate

Attendance in the intermediate class is by instructor permission only. In this class, we cover more complex movements and combinations. We also cover standard choreography and improvisational choreography (the signature of American Tribal Style Bellydance; a form of communication using cues which allows for spontaneous and flexible dance sets in a group.)

Cost is \$10/class. Time is Thursdays, 8:00-9:00 pm.

Advanced/Performance Prep

This class covers advanced movements and combinations, complex standard choreography and improvisational choreography. We also cover group and audience connection, professional behavior, and polishing performance skills. Attendance is by instructor permission only.

Time is Sundays 5-6:15. Cost is \$10/class.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available at \$35/hour by appointment. If you are looking for extra instruction outside of class or are unable to make regular class times, then private lessons are for you. These lessons are designed around your personal goals as a dancer, and are tailored to your needs. Contact Narah at 304-345-3045 or Narah@charter.net to set up an appointment.
